New, colourful hoardings celebrate Chorlton’s unique independent retail scene and the people behind it.

CBRE, working with precinct developers, Greater Manchester Pension Fund, commissioned a series of designs to celebrate what we have in our district centre and what makes it distinctive and special.  Designs were installed onto the precinct site perimeter fencing along Wilbraham and Manchester Roads last month and we love the results.

Working with Manchester design agency Instruct Studio their brief was also to show the people behind the distinctive independents we have here. The message was very much that Chorlton is still open, despite the loss of the precinct.

We supplied a long-list of local businesses, based on a number of factors – independence, longevity, distinctiveness, destination value (how many people come in from outside Chorlton to shop), community involvement, etc. Membership of Chorlton Traders wasn’t a factor – we wanted to showcase the best of what our town has to offer. The designers then drew up their own shortlist and sent the brilliant photographer Jody Hartley to each business to capture the essence of the people behind the shopfronts.

HUGE thanks to CBRE (especially Tom Ingham, Director of Place and Marketing, who managed the project), Laura at Instruct Studio and Jody Hartley for his amazing portrait and atmospheric photography.

We’re really proud of how Chorlton’s independent spirit is captured in these hoarding and we hope you feel the same way.
