After the retail tenants were forced to leave Chorlton Precinct in January 2024, demolition work will finally begin in the heart of our district centre this summer.
We had the consultation in 2023, the planning application was approved in 2025 and now work will begin on the large-scale redevelopment of central Chorlton. The Precinct, Graeme House and the car park will make way for a mixed-use, though mainly residential, scheme.
Businesses along Wilbraham Road, adjacent to the site, received letters from the developers, PJ Livesey, which you can read below (click to enlarge)
Key dates
The car park will close for good and the hoardings will be moved on May 31st 2026.
Demolition will begin on June 15th and is expected to be completed in August. Developers say they will use a dust control unit (which damps down dust and air pollution with a mist of water) and sound and vibration levels will be monitored. Work will be Monday-Friday 8am-6pm, Saturday 9am-1pm.
Construction work on the site is expected to begin soon after, with the first sector, the social homes, ready by 2028.
You can see the developers’ update about the site here.
