Street Art in Chorlton

'Welcome to Chorlton' by Oskar with a K, Wilbraham Road bridge, by the tram station.

Part of our remit as Chorlton Traders is to make Chorlton as welcoming a place as it can be. We’ve had our challenges over the last few years, but we hope that by planting flowers, organising clean-ups and other initiatives, we can make Chorlton a nicer place to do business.  Places which look loved are loved.

A key part of this is the provision of public art on junction boxes, walls, gable ends and even concrete lift shafts. Tagging (the spraypaint scribbles) you see everywhere make our town look shabby and neglected. We believe that high-quality, commissioned public art helps to make Chorlton more attractive and acts as deterrent to the taggers and vandals.

Our Co-Chair Steph has been working with Carolyn Kagan from Chorlton Civic Society / Chorlton Arts, along with the City Council’s Neighbourhoods team to commission art for our streets.

Here’s a selection of what you’ll find in Chorlton below. We can’t claim credit for all of these (but most): we feature them here because we love them!
