We’ve done it again! The amazing Laura Frances Heitzman has given us another  Chorlton welcome to be proud of!

After the wonderful work by Oskar with a K on the Morrisons tram bridge, this time it was the turn of our northernmost bridge (up by the former Baths and the Scott Avenue allotments) to act as a Welcome to Chorlton sign. We, working with Chorlton Civic Society and the City Council’s Neighbourhood team, have commissioned a warm Chorlton welcome and we’re thrilled with the result!

We think the artist, Laura – along with her team, Sadie Green and Millie Greenough (above) – has captured not only the spirit of Chorlton with some of our favourite phrases, but the exuberance and friendliness too.

Each side of the mural (and it’s on both sides of the bridge) is 15 metres long and called for many, many layers of paint.

Artist Laura says, “What an incredible experience. The people of Chorlton have been so supportive and it was amazing to be able to chat to so many of you and hear your appreciation.   I couldn’t have done it without the assistance of the wonderful @sadieeegreen and @milliegreenough thank you so much!!”

We’d like to thank you, Laura and team – we are thrilled with the result.  And a big 30-metre Thank You to the Bee Network (TfGM) for allowing us to paint the bridge. Also Manchester City Council – in particular our friend – and of course the tireless Civic Society team, whose powers of persuasion are quite unmatched.

A note about Chorlton’s Street Art

We’ve been working with Chorlton Civic Society to encourage businesses to commission public art for walls, gable ends, junction boxes, hoardings and more. We firmly believe that when a place looks loved, it is loved and stays cleaner for longer.  Visit our website – chorltonstreetart.co.uk to learn more about the art and the artists in Chorlton (including Laura), whose work you probably see every day.  You’ll also find great advice (including a sample contract) if you want to commission some colour for your own patch.

We (Chorlton Traders and Chorlton Civic Society) are not making or taking commission on any works or introductions – all of this is being done voluntarily, because we all want Chorlton to be a brighter place!

NOTE: we are also reporting tagging and grafitti to Greater Manchester Police, as well as helping to get the mess removed. If you see someone tagging or vandalising people’s property, or the work of our artists, please do the same. We shouldn’t put up with it.
