Christmas in Chorlton – a call to action

Let’s make Christmas in Chorlton special! We can  work together to boost business and raise footfall.

Scenes from the Switch-on

Chorlton Traders is all about partnerships: we can help organise promotion, but we’re only as good as the people who choose to join in. You don’t have to be a member (though it would be great if you join!) and we’re not asking for your money, only your participation.  Here’s how!

Decorate!

Lights and decorations – together, we can turn Chorlton into a really christmassy place to be and offer the  warmest of welcomes. We won’t have Council lamp-post lights this year: they’re too expensive (we don’t have the money and certainly don’t want to ask you to contribute): there are too many lamp-posts for a decent impact we can all share, anyway. Why not join forces with your neighbours to string up lights along your block or in nearby trees? You can use your own lights year after year.

Chorlton Civic Society awards a trophy for the best Christmas shop window each year. No need to enter – just get decorating and the judges will find you (first week in December).  And if you’d like to learn more about commissioning an artist for walls, windows or shutters, visit chorltonstreetart.co.uk for advice and a useful directory.

Christmas Lights Switch-on

Saturday 29 November 2025, 3-6pm (switch-on at 5pm), at the Four Banks junction (outside the Royal Oak)

Our friends at Redeemer are organising the switch-on, a mini-market, choirs and entertainment. The event will raise funds for local families through Reach Out to the Community. Last year around 1,500 people came along.

Would you like a free market stall at the event (places limited)?

Could you switch your own lights on at 5pm  that day to boost the effect?

Chorltonchristmas.co.uk

If we have enough participation, we’ll launch a website, listing events, promotions, offers and stories.

Christmas plans?  Share them with us and we’ll list them. We’ll use the web address for blanket promotion through socials and print, so be part of it! We also have Chorlton Gift Vouchers – let us know if you can sell or accept them.

We want a one-stop shop to help visitors to experience a Chorlton Christmas and appreciate all we have to offer.

Reindeer Trail

We’re working with Chorlton Scouts on a family-friendly Reindeer Trail. We’ll put pictures of reindeer all around Chorlton and children track them down to win prizes. These campaigns are fun, but also increase footfall.

Can you join in and display a reindeer?

And finally...

We know you’re very busy, but it’s easy to join in. If you have good ideas or useful contacts and suppliers, please share them with us.

Tag, share and post on your socials: help spread the word!

Put up a poster, host a reindeer, decorate your windows and  hang those lights!
