Chorlton & Chorlton Park Climate Action Workshops

// Tags: // Category:

This comes from our local councillors and Neighbourhood Team Manchester City Council….

In July, Manchester City Council unanimously passed a motion put forward by Chorlton Councillor Eve Holt,  declaring a climate emergency and setting out a firm commitment to build on work taking place in the city to reduce carbon emissions and to accelerate progress towards a zero carbon future.

We want to work with local residents to see what we can do here in our community to help meet the challenge of climate breakdown and realise ambitions for a healthy, safe, sustainable Chorlton.

This workshop will focus on the practical actions that we can take as local groups, businesses and citizens to create change in our community to combat the climate emergency here and now.   And to explore how local councillors and council officers can best support.

The workshop will help shape an action plan for Chorlton that we can continue to develop through an ongoing process of collaboration, building on existing action being taken at both a local and city wide level.  This will include discussion of the climate action ideas that emerged through discussions at the ‘Chorlton Great Get Together’ in June 2019 and the ‘Chorlton Great Get Together Again’ event in November 2019.

The workshop is open to anyone who lives, studies or works in the Chorlton ward.  Check with us if you are not sure which ward you are in.  To help us keep track of numbers and to plan the workshop effectively please email Nahla Eljack to confirm your attendance.   If you can’t make it this time but would like to be involved, please email Councillor Eve Holt.

We attach a summary of the feedback received at the workshop on 17 November and from June’s Great Get Together plus some local data for your information.  If you have any other information that could helpfully inform the discussion please do get in touch.

We look forward to working together on this.  If you have any questions or comments please feel free to get in touch.

Please do pass on to local people and groups you think may be interested, feel free to share the attached information with others via email and social media.

A workshop for Chorlton Park ward takes place on Thursday 30 January 2020, 7-9pm at Barlow Moor Community Association.

Our Chorlton Cycleway Response Jan 2019

Please find below a link to our 5 section response to the Chorlton Cycleway Consultation.

As traders we were particularly concerned at the ‘evidence’ pack (published by Transport for London) provided to us in answer to our concerns regarding the impact of the Chorlton Cycleway on trade. Other Traders’ Associations engaged in similar consultations with limited time available may find our very frank critique of this evidence, as set out in Section 4 of our response, most useful.
