We all need a bit of love in our lives, especially at this time of year. Whatever your relationship status, it’s time to love where you live – because it will love you back.

Money spent locally stays local. It supports lively high streets and district centres. It improves consumer choice and provides local jobs and training. Local prosperity means better house prices, good schools and increased inward investment.

Buy everything from chains and supermarkets and your money most likely clears off to drink cocktails in some sort of off-shore non-dom tax haven. It won’t even send you a postcard, let alone come back and visit.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re treating a loved one, treating yourself or ‘it’s complicated’; we really are lucky to have so much choice on our doorstep.

From candle-lit dinners to luxury chocolates; bespoke jewellery to handmade, original gifts, it’s all here in Chorlton. We also have an amazing array of top-quality grocers and delis, so if you’re cooking to impress, there’s no better place to bring your basket.

And if you’re looking for a gift, but not quite sure what it is yet, you can still Keep It Chorlton with Chorlton Gift Vouchers, valid in all businesses on the Chorlton map until 31 December. Get yours at Celebration Party Shop, Elliotts Fruit & Veg, Epicerie Ludo, Head Over Heels, Love Lucy Boutique, McQueen Independent, Punk’n’Disorderly, The Make It Shop or Unicorn.

Thank you, Chorlton

We were delighted to help support fellow member Home Instead’s Be A Santa to a Senior campaign.

Alison from Home Instead said: “Over 500 gifts were donated to local older people, along with over 150 hand-written Christmas cards. Thanks to all of Chorlton’s generous gift-givers, but particularly to the wrappers in Year 8 at Chorlton High; GM Fire Service; Chorlton Good Neighbours; hospitals; the Books To Go service; Age UK; pharmacies, nursing homes and other local businesses who all played their part.”

Your gifts made an awful lot of people smile. This was a massive effort, organised at quite short notice and an amazing achievement by Home Instead. Next year’s taget? 1,000 presents!
