Happy New Year, Chorlton
A huge thank you to everyone who kept it Chorlton this Christmas, buying bags and gift vouchers, shopping on our high streets and supporting our local economy all year.
That said, Chorlton is for life, not just for Christmas. Chorlton Gift Vouchers are still on sale and valid all year. You may not need birthday presents, bedding plants and ice cream right now, but when the time comes, the vouchers will still be there for you. Buy from: Celebration Party Shop, Elliotts, Epicerie Ludo, Love Lucy Boutique, The Make It Shop, McQueen Independent and Unicorn.
Another must-have for all seasons is the TAG! PassItOn Card, which gives exclusive local offers. It’s good for the everyday practical things, as well as a free treat now and then. Find out more at www.tagpassiton.co.uk, buy a card from shops displaying the TAG! logo or buy online
Two of our most active and committed members – Becky Elliott and Stephanie Moore of Elliotts, the greengrocers in the precinct – scooped a prestigious award last month. The Be Proud Awards celebrate public-spirited and generous Mancunians who make an outstanding contribution to their community.
Stephanie and Becky sell parsnips by day, but by night they are feeding homeless people all over the city with the Mad Dogs Homeless Project. They’re a very practical pair, using their shop as a collection point for food, clothing and other items, then when they’re out and about, they’re putting healthy, hot food directly into the hands of those who need it most. They’re both such modest, no-fuss people, but we are really proud of them and their award is well deserved.
Chorlton Book Festival
We had another wonderful festival in November, with attendance up again on previous years. Carol (our Chair) and Linsey (Community Index) spent a very enjoyable day in the Make It shop last month, judging Cover Stories competition. It was a tough job, though – we had an amazing array of impressive and beautifully decorated notebooks. Thanks to Danielle at the Make It Shop, who does such a great job of inspiring – and supplying – Chorlton’s creative side.
Springtime: coming soon
You’ll soon see spring flowers all over Chorlton: in beds and planters, bike racks and boxes. As traders, we fund their planting and maintenance: please help by buying a So Chorlton cotton bag – every penny raised keeps Chorlton blooming. Find them at Chorlton Art Market and Elliotts in the Precinct; Chorlton Bookshop (Wilbraham Road); and Epicerie Ludo and Love Lucy Boutique on Beech Road.
Let’s fill Chorlton with flowers, not plastic bags. Buy online here
