It’s beginning to look a lot like …

We know it’s still only November, but here at Chorlton Traders, we’ve been thinking about Christmas for a long time. It’s our favourite time of year – everywhere’s lit up and everyone’s in a good mood (if they’re not too stressed and overwhelmed by it all). Christmas takes a lot of preparation and planning, which is usually done by our members working voluntarily. We’d like to thank them for all they do to help Chorlton be a nicer place for us all.

Talking of which….

Beech Road Lantern Parade and Lights Switch-on

A wonderful start to our festive season, when a magical lantern parade, led by local schoolchildren, makes its way along Beech Road, ready for the lighting of the Christmas tree on the Green. This is a real family occasion with a choir and entertainment, mulled wine, mince pies, late-night shopping and lashings of Christmas cheer. The celebration, hosted by the independent traders of Beech Road, will raise much-needed funds for new play equipment in Beech Road Park.

The parade leaves Beech Road Park at 5.45pm on Thursday 26 November. The switch-on takes place on the Green at 6.15.

#KeepitChorlton

A lively and vibrant High Street is what makes a place unique – and Chorlton has four! We’ve a great collection of eclectic and independent shops along Manchester, Beech, Barlow Moor and Wilbraham Roads.

We firmly believe that everything you need for a great Christmas can be found here – bare necessities, quirky gifts, quality food, interesting drinks and a whole wealth of talented tradespeople who can help you get your house in order.

We wanted to celebrate that fact and keep local money local and we’re hoping that our new Chorlton Gift Vouchers, will do just that. Pick them up from early November at Celebration Party Shop on Barlow Moor Road, Epicerie Ludo, McQueen Independent and Love Lucy Boutique (all on Beech Road), The Make It Shop on Wilbraham Road, Unicorn Grocery on Manchester Road and Elliotts in the Precinct.

There’s no secret trader mark-up here – each voucher will cost you £10 and will buy you £10 worth of M21 loveliness. Buy them as Christmas gifts for friends, family, staff or clients. You can redeem vouchers with Chorlton and Beech Road Traders members that you’ll find on the Chorlton map – including restaurants, delis and wonderful gift emporia. They’re valid until 31 December 2016.

In the bag

And if you want to avoid filling the world with even more plastic, get your hands on a So Chorlton cotton bag featuring artwork by Anna Violet and Tom Biddle. Available for £2.99 at Epicerie Ludo (as above), Elliotts, Chorlton Bookshop and other local retailers, these little cotton numbers work in perfect partnership with your jute bags for life. Again, no secret mark-up: money raised from sales of the bag will go to maintaining Chorlton’s street planters and community garden through 2016.

Tuck one away in a pocket or handbag and save your 5p to spend on sweets.

The 2016 TAG! loyalty cards, which give local deals and discounts, will be in the shops from early December.

Chorlton gift vouchers, a TAG card and a Chorlton bag? The perfect present – it couldn’t be more Chorlton if it had a beard, rode a fold-up bike and only drank craft beer.
